Welcome! My name is Keisha Thiebaud, and I am eager to begin my third year teaching here at Danforth.  My husband, Brian,  and I are both educators & this year he will be teaching/coaching in the Dripping Springs school district.  We have three little girls: Carson (9), Blair (8) and Avery (5) who are a joy to us! This year I will be teaching four sections of 6th grade Introduction to Technology/ Teen Leadership and helping with CMC.

 I grew up in Amarillo where I attended Randall High School and then went south for college at Texas A&M Corpus Christi where I played basketball and volleyball and earned a degree in Speech Communications with a minor in Public Relations.  Upon graduation I worked for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes before making the decision to transition into education.  I feel so fortunate to be entrusted with this position of influencing and impacting students, and getting to watch from a front-row seat as they gain experience and knowledge, discovering the greatness that lies within them.  I am blessed to be a part of such a wonderful team of educators in Wimberley ISD and look forward to great year!

Typing Websites for Practice At Home

If you want students to take a break from the games, have them use Typing Speed Monitor for Google Chrome. Typing Speed Monitor is a Google Chrome extension that will track how fast you type and what keys you use most frequently. If you do a lot of writing online, Typing Speed Monitor is one way to get accurate feedback on your typing proficiency in real-world settings. The latest version of Typing Speed Monitor allows you to opt out of having it track your typing on domains you specify. For example, if you don't want it to track how fast you type on Facebook, you can exclude that domain.
We will also use a program called Keyboarding Online with a personal login for each student.  Once we learn all of our keys we will practice using this sight.

This week we will also be signing our Social Contracts.  Here is what 4th period came up with when we discussed the way we would agree to treat one another in our class.  Each class was unique but they all spoke of Respect and Kindness!

Week 4 Plans

Today I had alot of fun with the kids with our lesson on the importance of making a good  first impression.  You should ask them about the eight ways they can make a good first impression and for them to show you their handshake.  The rest of the week will be primarily focused toward introducing new keys on the keyboard & typing practice.  Please encourage your child to give their best effort toward learning this important skill! 
Monday:  First Impressions Lesson, Notes on 8 cues, Handshake practice
Tuesday:  Typing Lesson 3, Learning E & H (Finish Lesson 2)
Wednesday: Typing Lesson 4, Learning R & I
Thursday:  Journal, Touch Typing Games & Lesson 5 Review of E, H,R, I
Friday:   Lesson on Personal Mastery & Lesson on Personal Mastery
Progress reports will go out at the end of the week and I will post grades tomorrow at noon.  If your student is missing work when you look at Skyward, please ask them about it.  I have communicated in class what I am missing and many have brought me their assignments. Most of the time it is an issue of turning it in to the right place, and I am giving grace as students learn to use Ebackpack.

Week 3 in Tech/ Leadership!

This week we really begin focusing on learning the proper form for keyboarding and will end the week with our first speeches for Leadership.
Monday: off!
Tuesday: Keying Correctly Worksheets DUE. Go over these in class together. Set default settings in Microsoft Word.  **Don't forget to come visit our classroom for Open House tonight!!
Wednesday: Colored Keyboard DUE on Ebackpack.  Learn how to upload a picture of an assignment to Ebackpack.  Begin Lesson #1, Learning the Home Row Keys.
Thursday:  Finish Lesson #2, Review of the Home Row Keys.  Talk about having an "I Can"  attitude and prepare outlines for their first speeches on Friday.
Friday:  All about Me Speeches.  Speech must be between one minute and one minute and 30 seconds in length.  Each student will receive full credit for this speech if they turn in an outline and speak for the full minute.

Impact Journal

Monday we watched this awesome video and talked about how we make an impact on the world around us.  Each of my students has the potential to make the world more beautiful and have already done that for me.  I am loving this group of kids!

Week Two

Week 2: Tech/ Leadership
Monday:  Creating our class Social Contract using Nearpod
Tuesday: Finishing Social Contracts 
Wednesday:  Keying Correctly Worksheet 
Thursday: Open Word, set defaults, Pass out Keyboards, Learn  Home Keys, Practice on paper keyboards. Work on /finish Keying Correctly Projects & nametags
Friday: Project Presentations & Grade Keying Correctly Worksheet, Practice home keys drill on desks, Learn how to do a heading. Type up Lesson 1(home keys)
This week we are creating Social Contracts in our class which will serve as an agreement of the way we will treat one another by asking the questions:
  • How do you want to be treated by me (Coach Thiebaud)?
  • How do you want to treat each other?
  • How do you think I (Coach Thiebaud) want to be treated?
  • How should we treat one another when there is conflict?
These contracts can also be used in your home/family to create an atmosphere of safety and cooperation.  It has been awesome to hear how the students are thinking through these questions and coming up with some wonderful thoughts.  I will post our finished contracts here and in our classroom!
We are also starting to get into keyboarding form, logging into computers and typing home row this week. It will take hard work and discipline, but I am confident this will be a group fast typists once it is all said and done.  They are a great group!

First Day of School!!!

I know it may have been crazy getting it together for the first day of school, but we are looking forward to a great week of getting to know each other and our keyboards!
